At Gyanjivi, we believe that knowledge knows no boundaries, and neither should education. Founded by Dr. N. Ganga Vidya, an esteemed Social Scientist, Professor, and ICT4D Advocate with over 25 years of experience, Gyanjivi reimagines the traditional library as an immersive, multi‑sensory space that goes beyond words.
Here, learning engages all senses: sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste, making education inclusive, accessible, and impactful. Our mission is to break literacy barriers and open the doors of knowledge for every individual across the globe, regardless of their ability to read or write. Through a unique blend of digital libraries, live video platforms, and crowdfunding ecosystems, Gyanjivi.org empowers learners, entrepreneurs, and changemakers to connect, create, and grow together.
I am Dr. N. Ganga Vidya, a dedicated Social Scientist, Professor, and ICT4D advocate with over two decades of hands‑on experience in shaping policies for sustainable development and climate action. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with NGOs, corporate foundations, and global institutions, from advising on climate policies with Prof. M.S. Swaminathan to creating early warning and rehabilitation strategies for communities impacted by tsunamis, cyclones, and floods. In doing so, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of inclusive knowledge.
It breaks my heart to know that over 775 million people across the globe are left out of mainstream education simply because they can’t read or write. To me, education should not be defined by alphabets; it must transcend text and reach every person, regardless of their circumstances. This belief inspired me to create Gyanjivi, an initiative that blends the richness of books with the beauty of sound, the vibrancy of color, the sensation of touch, and the aroma of fresh print, making knowledge a universal experience. If this vision speaks to your heart, if you’re passionate about climate action, disaster resilience, inclusive education, or ICT for social good, I invite you to join us.
At Sri Bala Gyanjivi Foundation, our purpose is clear, ambitious, and inclusive:
Preserve Indigenous Knowledge: To create a digital library of rural wisdom, agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, entrepreneurship, traditional medicine, and heritage practices, available in multi-sensory formats (text, video, audio, tactile, smell, and taste).
Make Knowledge Profitable: To monetize rural knowledge using the Gyanjivi digital currency, making every interaction between knowledge holders and seekers rewarding and sustainable.
Foster Climate Action & Sustainability: To enable rural and indigenous communities to access global carbon markets and ESG opportunities, making them active stakeholders in climate resilience.
Bridge the Literacy Gap: To build inclusive platforms where rural knowledge can be exchanged regardless of literacy or formal education, making access universal.
Empower Rural Entrepreneurship: To transform traditional wisdom into viable micro, small, and social enterprises, elevating rural communities to participate fully in the global digital and green economy.
